SUSTAINABLE DESIGN IN PRACTICE

Principles of sustainable design are inherent in our work, and we approach every project with creative solutions that result in high quality architecture. We have a practical, working knowledge of energy-conscious design including passive solar tempering, natural daylighting, energy-efficient regional building construction techniques, and sensible design of HVAC systems. We utilize passive solar heating and cooling, photovoltaic power, and solar water heating.   When appropriate for a project, we incorporate rainwater catchment, graywater and backwater treatment systems.  Recycled and natural materials can lead to exciting spaces and cost savings.

We incorporate these practices in projects from home remodels to schools, businesses to master plans. Regardless of architectural style or project type, we are committed to the highest standards of resource management.

Sustainability reaches another level in Earthship homes. Designed to be off-grid and to use waste products such as stripped tires and cans for building materials, these buildings can be elegant as well as comfortable homes. Ask our Principal Architects, who designed and built the off-grid home they have lived in for 20 years.
